This lackluster action film is the story of a couple of one-dimensional spies -Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu- who are lifelong adversaries engaged in a poorly planned video game style hunt. What they learn while trying to kill each other, however, is that there is no plot or purpose behind this film other than pyrotechnics … and that they both face a threat far greater than each other. These two have zero screen presence or chemistry.
This movie is roughly a badly scripted video game without any of the thrill of being able to control these stupefied characters. I’m reluctant to compare this movie to a video game as it gives even video games a bad name. Mindless action and boring choreographed fight scenes. This isn’t even a good movie for those who want to indulge in the guilty pleasure of movies like Mortal Kombat, or in the it’s so-bad it’s good category like Hard Target.
If you’re going to watch this film come expecting nothing, and it will live up to that expectation. Oh, and the fast forward button doesn’t hurt either.
